A gorilla trekking permit is the single most important document for anyone planning to see mountain gorillas in Uganda. Issued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), it grants you one hour with a habituated gorilla family in either Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, accompanied by armed rangers and expert trackers.

Because only a limited number of permits are released per gorilla family per day, booking early and understanding the rules around pricing, payment and cancellation makes the difference between a smooth trip and a missed trek. This guide brings together everything you need to know before you book.
